A Warm Welcome: 糖心 Offers Real-World Experience to UniSQ Student

Wednesday 25 June

糖心 welcomed a new face to the College this week. Third-year communications student from the University of Southern Queensland (UniSQ), Gabrielle Leahy, has joined the school鈥檚 marketing team for a seven-week internship as she approaches the final stages of her degree. Set to graduate in August, Gabby says the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a school environment is a capstone for her studies.

鈥淚鈥檓 so excited to be here 鈥 I think this is one of the schools setting the example in school marketing. There鈥檚 a lot I can learn from the team,鈥 Gabby said.

Throughout the placement, Gabby will be undertaking a range of marketing tasks including photography, content creation, and newsletter writing.

鈥淚鈥檒l be assisting the team with daily operations and doing a bit of everything. I鈥檓 sure you鈥檒l see me running around campus with a camera at some point!鈥 she laughed.

Gabby was drawn to the field of marketing for its adaptability and broad scope.

鈥淚t鈥檚 something that touches every industry. It鈥檚 dynamic and always changing, so there鈥檚 always something to learn,鈥 she said.

With a particular interest in branding and digital analytics, she views the internship as an opportunity to explore different areas of the profession and build practical skills.

鈥淚t鈥檚 one thing to learn the theory, but to actually put it into practice is a whole other skill,鈥 she said.

The experience of working alongside experienced staff is another aspect Gabby is looking forward to.

鈥淚 want to get a feel for how the team does things here and really take on every experience I can. I know Belinda and Mariette have a lot of expertise, so I hope to learn from them,鈥 she said.

Her first impressions of the College have been overwhelmingly positive.

鈥淓veryone has been so warm and welcoming. It鈥檚 such a nurturing environment, and it鈥檚 clear how dedicated the staff are, not just to their roles but to the students and the wider community.鈥
